ABOUT LEATHER MASTERS
Leather Masters has been creating leather goods since 1989. What began as part of Kansas City’s longtime adult and leather community has grown into a working leather studio located inside Passions KC in Westport.
The building that now houses Passions KC was once home to Video Mania. That business later became EmCity and eventually Leather Masters. When the previous owners were ready to retire, Leather Masters was expected to close. Instead, Jimmy and Paul Roark-Gruender purchased the retail and production sides of the company along with the Leather Masters name, keeping its history, patterns, and craftsmanship alive in Kansas City.
Today, Leather Masters operates as a business within Passions KC. Our street-visible studio allows customers to see real leatherwork being done at the bench. The people answering your questions are the same people cutting, assembling, fitting, and repairing the leather.
Our archive includes nearly 1,000 original patterns, including dozens of harness designs. Those patterns give us a strong foundation, but they do not limit what we can make. Our work includes harnesses, collars, wristbands, belts, suspenders, jocks, shirts, vests, shorts, pants, accessories, and other specialty leather pieces.
We offer ready-to-wear items as well as custom work. If an existing piece does not fit correctly, we may be able to resize or modify it. If a buckle, strap, snap, or other part needs attention, bring it to us and let us take a look. We also create completely original pieces for customers who have an idea they cannot find anywhere else.
Function always comes first. Leather should fit properly, feel good on the body, and hold up when it is actually being worn. We pay attention to comfort, movement, hardware placement, and how each piece will be used—not simply how it looks hanging on a rack.
Leather Masters also has deep roots in Kansas City’s leather, kink, BDSM, and LGBTQ+ communities. Our Westport location has served as a gathering point for the adult community since the 1990s, and we continue helping customers connect with local clubs, groups, events, and community spaces.
